ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – On November 28, Bay College and the Escanaba City band partnered for their second annual Giving Tuesday event.
The City Band performed a free holiday concert at the Besse Center.
“The City Band usually practices in the summertime, and that’s when our concerts are,” said Band Director Bruce Cassell. “Doing a concert in November was kind of new, but we tried it last year and it went really well. Christmastime has always been a time of giving. I think that the more that we can get people together to celebrate the better it will be for everyone.”
As guests entered, they had several opportunities to make charitable donations. The Salvation Army collected toys, the Bay College and LSSU Business Professionals of America chapter collected coats, the Student Nurses Association and EMT/Paramedic Club collected monetary donations for its giving trees, and Bay’s TRIO program collected food for the student-run pantry.
“It’s important for Bay College to give back to the community for events like this, because our philosophy here at the college is ‘Community Success, Student Success, and Culture of Success,’ and that is really a philosophy that is felt collegewide,” said TRIO coordinator Jennifer Pickle.
