ISHPEMING, Mich. (WZMQ) – A Thanksgiving day run in Ishpeming is giving back and helping to provide food security for students.
The 11th annual IshpeTurkey Trot kicked off yesterday at 9 a.m. with over 200 runners. proceeds from the event benefited hematite power packs, an organization that provides take home meals for students over the weekend.
The run and walk was a family friendly event featuring a 5k course that primarily ran along the Iron Ore Heritage Trail.
“This is a race you can do with your family or do by yourself and get outside before sitting down and eating so much,” said Diane Gauthier, who started the Ishpeturkey Trot 11 years ago.
Hematite Power Packs is always seeking donations which can be dropped off at the Gauthier Insurance Office located at 219 S Main St, Ishpeming, MI 49849.
