MANISTIQUE, Mich. (WZMQ) – This weekend, the City of Manistique is officially kicking off the holiday season.
At 6:30 p.m. on Friday, November 24, the Manistique Merchants are hosting the annual Christmas Parade through the downtown, leading to a tree lighting at Triangle Park.
“The stores in Downtown Manistique go extra hard for Christmas,” said Mandy Fierens, owner of crystal and metaphysical shop Drift Alchemy. “Everyone decorates. I basically feel like we live in a Hallmark town!”
There, a photographer will take free photos of children with Santa Claus. The Lake Effect Community Arts Center will host a Christmas Market with vendors and crafts. The City will provide popcorn and hot chocolate for guests.
“Last year was our first experience with seeing the photos with Santa and just how many people came out and all the kids that were just so excited,” Fierens said. “It was just such a special time. Especially with all the stuff we had going on with COVID, the community was so excited to have some hope and excitement around Christmastime and the magic that’s there.”
Along the parade route, the local Marine Corps League will be collecting toys for children throughout Schoolcraft County.
