MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – For the first time in history a portrait of a female judge is hanging in the Marquette County Circuit Courtroom.
The picture was hung in a ceremony today to honor the 15 year long career of Judge Jennifer Mazzuchi who retired on November 1st..
Mazzuchi was first elected to serve on the bench in November 2008, following over a decade of work for the prosecutor’s office. Mazzuchi served as the Chief Circuit Court Judge from 2016 to 2023.
In attendance during today’s festivities were Mazzuchi’s family, former and current Upper Peninsula judges, and community members.
“I have total confidence that the county will be well served by Judge Griffin and soon to be Judge Weise, I have worked with both of them. I think they will both serve very honorably, so I am happy to turn the gavel over,” said Mazzuchi.
Mazzuchi says that for now she is going to enjoy retirement but plans to stay involved with the local community.
