MARQUETTE, Mich, (WZMQ) – Marquette Board of Light and Power member Margaret Brumm announced today that she would be running against Jenn Hill for the Michigan 109th District as a democrat.
Her main focuses were renewable energy, small businesses, and U-P autonomy.
Brumm said she disagreed with Representative Hill’s vote on the recently passed energy legislation, and had lost faith in Hill to support the needs of the Upper Peninsula.
“I believe our current representative will continue to put the interests of Lansing ahead of the needs of the upper peninsula,” said Brumm, “and will continue to give away local rule in favor of state rule, and I believe this will be devastating to the ability of the Upper Peninsula’s people to control their own fate.”
If elected, Brumm said she plans to take steps to change or remove the recent legislation to allow for more local control.
Brumm plans to start meeting with city officials and continue campaigning in the coming weeks.
