ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – An Escanaba organization is making sure every family has a delicious Thanksgiving meal.
Mission of Hope Delta County is hosting a Turkey Drive.
“Last year, we had this idea when inflation just started to hit—and obviously it’s continued—to try and help families to still be able to have a nice Thanksgiving at home,” said Paul Culbertson, Mission of Hope Director and Pastor of Wellspring Community Church. “The greatest expense at Thanksgiving is usually your turkey.”
This year, Mission of Hope’s goal is to provide turkeys to about 100 Delta County families. Culbertson says it is a community effort.
“We made a partnership with Walmart, and they are allowing us to get the turkeys at the same discounted price as all families, so they’re stepping up,” he said. “They’ve been great supporters of Mission of Hope, so we’re very thankful for them.”
Anyone in need of a turkey this Thanksgiving can fill out the registration form on the Mission of Hope Facebook page. Turkeys will be available for pickup on Friday, November 17, at Wellspring Community Church during its Friendsgiving event.
“We’re super excited to be able to be a little part of helping people have some hope and a great Thanksgiving together,” Culbertson said. “If families want to come in and pick up their turkey, they’re also welcome to stay and have Friendsgiving with us. It’s going to be a great night of fellowship and meeting new people.”
This Thanksgiving, Culbertson is grateful for the community’s support of Mission of Hope Delta County throughout the year.
“Places like Walmart, individuals, so many sponsors have jumped onboard to help,” he said. “We were able to help hundreds of families so far this year, and this is just one more step. We couldn’t do it without this amazing community. We really live in a beautiful place with a lot of very generous people.”
Tuesday, November 14, is the final day to sign up to receive a turkey, with registration closing at midnight.
