Caps for a Cause: Dickinson County premiere raises funds for high school skiers

IRON MOUNTAIN, Mich. (WZMQ) – Barb Kramer, the creative force behind Caps for a Cause, took center stage at the Braumart Theatre in Dickinson County for a special premiere of Warren Miller’s documentary, ‘All-Time.’ The event aimed to support the Pine Mountain and Norway High School ski teams.

Kramer shared, “So I got recruited for tonight for the Warren Miller film and Pine Mountain ski team, and I hurried up and made a bunch of caps this week so that I could have something to show anyway.”

The theatre’s lobby was transformed into a hub for Caps for a Cause, with fifty percent of all cap sales pledged to fund the aspiring ski athletes. Kramer, known for her loom-crafted caps, shared her journey, revealing, “I decided a couple of years ago that I really wanted to do some hobby, and I love knitting, but unfortunately, arthritis got in the way. I had to come up with a different method, and during Covid, I found something that kept me very busy.”

The Caps for a Cause initiative is not limited to the premiere; it will continue its mission at Pine Mountain next month to raise funds for the Moving Mountains Adaptive Ski Program. Kramer expressed, “Most of my hats are made from acrylic because they’re washable. They’re easy, and if they get lost, it’s not a trauma.”

She elaborated on her creations, including high-end caps made from alpaca imported from Peru, highlighting their softness and quality. “I donate 50% of my proceeds; for tonight, it’ll be Pine Mountain ski team, and then on December 2, I’ll be at Pine Mountain for the Moving Mountains adaptive skiing program.”

For those interested, Kramer encouraged special orders, stating, “I do take special orders, you know I’ve got special order forms, and people can tell me what they want. We’ll work something out.” To contact Barb Kramer, the email is bjkcapsforacause@gmail.com.
