KINGSFORD, Mich. (WZMQ) – WZMQ interviewed Matt Donovan, a key member of the First National Bank’s Veteran Outreach Committee, discussing the upcoming Veterans Day celebration in Dickinson County.
Tomorrow, Venue 906 is set to host a Veterans Day extravaganza, aiming to raise funds for the Oscar G. Johnson VA Medical Center. The event, running from 2 PM to midnight, boasts a silent auction, raffle, and a 50-50 drawing. The talented musical lineup includes Todd Wangerin, Dwayne Meeker, Dewey Blagec, Jim Counter, and Money 2 Burn, with live performances starting at 3 PM.
Over a hundred gift baskets, silent auction items, and prizes, contributed by local businesses, are up for grabs, such as a $500 whiskey set with glasses donated by the Liuna Local 1329 Labor Union. First National Bank is actively participating through its Veteran Outreach Committee, presenting a gift basket for the cause.
Donovan highlighted the bank’s commitment: “We established an internal veterans committee in May to focus on supporting various veterans events. Whether through donations or co-sponsoring entertainment, like at the annual veterans picnic at Lake Antoine Park this summer, we aim to fill gaps and promote events like the upcoming Veterans Day celebration.”
He emphasized, “So there’s going to be a Veterans Day celebration here starting at 2 PM, and then they have gift baskets, food, I believe as well for local veterans.”
Donovan shared that the veteran outreach committee was created to support and promote local veteran events in the area. “It’s just another local veterans event that we want to be involved in, in some way, and then also helping to promote the event. That’s probably the primary focus as much as anything, the veterans outreach committee is to just raise awareness of just things that are going on in the Veterans community”
“The proceeds are going to the VA, I believe, and also helping to promote the events. That’s probably the primary focus as much as anything with the Veterans outreach committee, is just to raise awareness of things that are going on in the veteran’s community” Donovan stated.
