ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – A nonprofit is raising money to help those diagnosed with cancer.
The Delta County Cancer Alliance provides support for cancer patients, including nutritional and hygiene products and wheelchair and walker loans. President Gayle DeShambo says a major way the alliance helps patients is through financial assistance.
“We can support them throughout the year with up to $800 to help cover expenses related to travel for their cancer, miscellaneous bills that perhaps insurance isn’t covering,” DeShambo explained. “It doesn’t seem like a lot of money, $800, but it does help. If nothing else, they come into our office, they have a chance to talk about what’s going on and know our community really appreciates all that we’re trying to do during their journey with cancer.”
The Delta County Cancer Alliance is currently hosting a Holiday Raffle. Tickets cost $5 each or $10 for three. DeShambo says it is a fun way to help cancer patients in your own community.
“We’re always trying to work with our community to get folks to come forward with donations,” said DeShambo. “All of the money that is raised by the activities that we do and the donations that we get stays right here in Delta County for those friends, family, and community members that have a cancer diagnosis.”
The $1,000 winner of the Holiday Raffle will be drawn on Sunday, November 19 at the Escanaba Elks Lodge at 510 Ludington Street. The event will begin at 4:00 p.m., with the drawing at 6:00 p.m. Tickets will be available for purchase until 5:55 p.m.
