ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – Over the weekend, the Daily Press U.P. Ice Fishing and Hunting Expo featured something for every outdoorsman. Thanks to vendors like Women Hunt Too, there were also plenty of products for outdoorswomen.
Dawn Freeland launched Women Hunt Too about 12 years ago as a Facebook group.
“At the time, there wasn’t very many things out there for women and hunting,” she recalled. “Facebook was getting big at the time, so I decided to throw my hat in the ring and I gained so many women so fast. It was such a nice camaraderie. It has grown to 375,000 fans now.”
At the U.P. Ice Fishing and Hunting Expo, Women Hunt Too had a selection of apparel for female hunters, fishers, and campers. Freeland says it is important that women know there is a place for them at events like these.
“When I first started doing expos, you could walk around and you could count how many booths had something to do with women, and that usually was one or two,” she said. “There’s that ‘good old boys club,’ and sometimes breaking through it’s a little hard to do, so walking around it and starting your own group is best. We have way more fun, and we have better stories too!”
Women Hunt Too, along with Women Fish Too and Women Camp Too, invites more outdoorswomen to join. The group discusses hunts, answers questions, and plans meetups. Visit the Women Hunt Too website, Facebook, or Instagram page for more information.
