NEGAUNEE, Mich. (WZMQ) – The City of Negaunee is introducing a new committee aimed at sustaining and growing the outdoor recreation economy in the UP.
The Special Advisory Committee on Economic Impacts of Recreational Trails committee will be comprised of seven members, all of whom have been appointed by the city manager. Made up of officials from the biking, snowmobiling, and ORV community, the committee will be handling any of the current upgrades, repairs, and future plans for the recreational trails in Negaunee.
Negaunee City Manager comments that the city has recently been more focused on its recreational economy and having a group of people who have its best interest in mind will help it grow.
“I can sit here and other people from the street can come here and just say what they think about the trails but actually listening and talking to those people who are in the thick of it all the time means more than just personal opinion one person or a couple of peoples opinions off the street,” commented Negaunee City Manager Nate Hefron.
The members of the committee are Mayor Dave Kangas, Danny Hill from the mountain bike community, Joanie Gleason, Tom St. Aubin, Dale Rodgers, Bob Hendrickson, and Jon Becker.
The first meeting will solely be focused on organization and scheduling future meetings, but a date has not been set yet.
