ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – Late in the night on Tuesday, September 19, law enforcement responded to a report of a weapon at Bay College in Escanaba.

At 11:01 p.m., Escanaba Public Safety officers were dispatched to the college for a subject walking around the dorms carrying an “AR rifle,” wearing a mask, and knocking on doors.

Officers searched the campus, simultaneously working with Bay College staff to review camera footage and interview students.

Through interviews and video, officers learned the three students in question were wearing Halloween masks. One individual had a plasic machete. Officers learned the three students were “pranking” other students and no real weapons were involved. Officers identified and interviewed those involved.

Escanaba Public Safety was assisted by the Delta County Sheriff’s Department, the Michigan State Police, Bay College Staff, and Delta County Dispatch.
