Last year was the 20th anniversary of the Negaunee Miners winning their last football state championship.
The 2022 Miners came up just short of adding another, losing at Ford Field in the Division 6 State Championship game. The Miners went a perfect 9-0 in the regular season and won 13 straight before their first loss.

Negaunee will have high expectations but also a big target painted on their back following last season’s success. The 2023 campaign kicked off Thursday night in a rivalry matchup with the Miners hosting the Ishpeming Hematites.
