ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – On Friday, the most awarded cattle at the U.P. State Fair faced off for top honors.
Each Grand Champion cow and steer strutted around the beef ring, with each breed represented.
Tyler Labadie of TL Livestock in Hastings and his heifer, J-Lo, won Supreme Overall Female. J-Lo and her competitors were judged on rib size, conditioning, and breeding functionality.
Labadie says after a long year with twelve different showings and several other awards, he was thrilled to receive the honor.
“It feels amazing,” he said. “We put a lot of work into her. For the past, like, two-and-a-half months we’ve been rinsing her every single day, sometimes twice a day. Lots of hair care, lots of changing feed up to get her to where she is today, but we’re really proud of her.”
Saturday, August 19 is the Jr. Market Livestock Auction. The auction will be held at the grandstand at 11:00 a.m.
WZMQ 19 is a proud sponsor of the 95th annual U.P. State Fair.
