GOGEBIC COUNTY, Mich. (WZMQ) – Two road construction projects on US-2 in Gogebic County begin this week.
Monday, June 26, the Michigan Department of Transportation began work on 3.3 miles of US-2 from Bessemer to Ironwood. The $1.8 million project will resurface that stretch of road, including asphalt overlay, shoulder aggregate work, and pavement markings.
Drivers should expect intermittent single-lane closures with traffic shifts. MDOT says a lane width restriction of 12 feet will be in place during construction.
That project is expected to be completed by August 4, 2023.
On Wednesday, June 28, MDOT will begin work on 5.2 miles of US-2 from Wakefield east. The $1.4 million project will resurface that stretch of road, including asphalt cold milling and resurfacing, crack filling, surface seal, should aggregate work, and pavement markings. MDOT says that project includes a three-year pavement performance warranty.
Drivers should expect intermittent single-lane closures with traffic shifts. A lane width restriction of 12 feet will be in place during construction.
