HANCOCK, Mich. (WZMQ) – A home in Hancock is heavily damaged after a fire Sunday evening, June 18.

The Hancock Police Department says it happened around 6:30 p.m. at 911 S. Lincoln Dr. The house was unoccupied at the time.

When firefighters arrived, the house was fully engulfed in flames. Crews spent two hours and 20 minutes knocking down the fire.

Authorities say there was minimal damage to a neighboring house. One Hancock firefighter suffered minor heat exhaustion.

The Hancock Fire Department and Police Department investigated the scene on Monday, June 19. Authorities say the fire does not appear to be suspicious, and the fire started on the first floor of the home.

The City of Houghton Fire Department and a Dollar Bay First Responder assisted with mutual aid. The Hancock Police Department, the Houghton Police Department, the Houghton County Sheriff’s Office, and MTU Public Safety assisted with traffic.

The Hancock Fire Department would like to thank everyone who helped out at the scene.
