WASHINGTON, D.C. – Hey batter batter swing! Congressional republicans have defeated the democrats in a game of baseball.
Members on both sides of the aisle participated in the annual Congressional Baseball Game. Last year the game raised $1.5 million for local charities like the Boys and Girls Club and the US Capitol Police Memorial Fund. This year’s total wasn’t immediately announced. Michigan Rep. Jack Bergman (R-MI) participated in this year’s game as an assistant coach for the Republicans. Other players consisted of party leaders like republican whip Steve Scalise (R- LA) and House democratic minority leader Hakeem Jeffries to freshman members. This year the republicans beat the democrats 16-5.
