MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – The US Army celebrated its 248th birthday today, and the American Legion Post #44 in Marquette celebrated with a party.
The army was established on June 14th, 1775, which is more than a year before the Declaration of Independence was signed.
Currently the Army has over 480,000 service members. The American Legion says that by celebrating the army’s birthday is a way to honor those who have served.
“I think it’s good because for service members, it gives people a chance to get with other people they served with,” remarked Jim Wallis the American Legion’s Post Commander.
The American Legion is always seeking new members. For more information on the Marquette post visit here.
