WASHINGTON, D.C. – As former President Donald Trump made his Florida courtroom appearance, Congressional members spoke out about Trump’s federal indictment.
For the most part, members are split on the indictment. In part of a Tweet from Pennsylvania Congressman Mike Kelly (R-PA) he said: “the American people are witnesses the continued double standard that is not even slightly disguised in this latest attack on former president Donald Trump by the Biden Justice Department.”
Senate democrats for the most part are only saying that “no one is above the law” and not commenting too much further. Senate republicans on the other hand are hardly commenting at all. This is how Senate republican leader Mitch McConnell (R- KY) responded when he was asked if he would support Trump if he won the republican presidential nomination:
“The republican campaign for the nomination has been going on for a year or longer and I’m simply not going to comment on the candidate,” said McConnell. “There’s simply a bunch of them and I’m simply going to stay out of it.”
“In terms of the Trump indictment, no one is above the law including Donald Trump,” said Sen. Chuck Schumer (D- NY). “And there ought to be no political or ideological interferences as the case moves forward.”
