ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – The Krusin’ Klassics Fun Run made its 37th drive through Escanaba Friday evening.
According to Krusin’ Klassics Car Club president Mark Caswell, the Fun Run signals the beginning of car show season for many in Delta County.
“We’ve kicked it off for a lot of years, as we’re known to be the biggest car event in the Upper Peninsula and Northern Wisconsin,” he said.
Crowds cheered on the Fun Run from Ludington Park, down Ludington Street, and to Sheridan Road. Then the parade made a special trip to Lakeview Assisted Living in Gladstone.
Drivers of all ages showed off their classic cars for the event. While they all love their vehicles, for people like Jay Brand, cars are a family legacy.
“Fairlane Estates that Henry Ford owned, that was formerly in my family’s possession a couple of generations back,” said Brand. “We kind of trace ourselves back to Fords and Detroit cars.”
Brand drove his 1983 Oldsmobile 98 in the Fun Run. This was his first year participating in the event, and he says he would love to do it again.
“You see all the people are smiling and the crowds that are waving at you,” said Brand. “Everybody’s got their own story to tell and a different car to drive, and that’s what makes it exciting!”
After the Fun Run, participants and community members enjoyed live music, dancing, and a costume contest at the fairgrounds.
The fun continues on Saturday, June 3, with a car show, raffles, and other activities for everyone to enjoy.
“If you’re looking for an event that’s got a little bit of everything to offer, we’ve got the dyno area, you can put your car up there and test your horsepower and whatnot, a petting zoo, lots of different vendors, and tons of really nice cars to look at,” said Caswell.
The car show gates will open on Saturday at 8 a.m. For a full list of Krusin’ Klassics activities and times, click here.
