GWINN, Mich. (WZMQ) – The VFW post in Gwinn celebrated memorial day in a newly renovated space. Post 5670 hosted a luncheon after this morning’s Memorial Day ceremonies.
The post has been working for the past few months to update the building’s interior. The Adjutant with the post, Alan Cook, says though it’s not complete, it feels great to see people celebrating in the updated space.
“It makes me very happy to see the community coming in today,” Cook says, “Paying respect to the veterans that are no longer with us, a lot of family members today in here to do that. This is a day of honor and remembrance for us, as memorial day. It’s nice to open it up and have some food and beverage and share stories.”
Leaders at the post are looking for volunteers this Wednesday, May 31st, to help wrap up the interior. Cook says all volunteers are welcome, staff will be at The VFW from 9 am until 4 pm on Wednesday. Walk in volunteers are welcome, or you can call the post at (906) 346-5670.
