MACKINAC COUNTY, Mich. (WZMQ) – On May 25th, 2023, troopers from the St. Ignace Post were called to a disturbance report involving a firearm at a residence in Mackinac County.
When they arrived, troopers found a 73-year-old male dead with an apparent gunshot wound.
A female subject was suspected of being involved in the homicide from numerous indicators. The female is a relative of the deceased victim and both subjects are from the Hessel and Pickford area. The female later identified as 34-year-old Joelle Chanberlaine was located just down the road from the scene and was taken into custody.
She has been charged with Open Murder and has been arraigned in the 92nd District Court with no bond and is currently being held at Mackinac County Jail.
The name of the victim is not being released at this time.
Mackinac County Sheriffs Dept, Sault Tribal Police, Clark Township EMS, and the Michigan State Police Forensic Lab in Grayling assisted the Troopers.
