TacoMo Dog Etiquette requires positive reinforcement

MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – Dog etiquette can be quite an important skill for your puppies to learn. Earlier on Wednesday, at TacoMo Dog Training, dog etiquette was the subject in the classroom, which can be quite an important skill for your puppies to learn.

TacoMo helps to train owners as well as their pets. Trainers said that learning positive reinforcement in training actually provides your pet with a sense of confidence, which can lead to easier encounters with meeting new dogs.

“An initial greeting of two seconds, so if you do pass by another dog and your dog wants to say hi and the other dog does too, sniff sniff sniff stick two seconds and walk away and give em a little treat to say that was a very polite greeting lets move on because we don’t know if every dog is going to wanna stay in a social situation,” said Owner Kim Benson-Custard.

Trainers recommend that pet owners practice observing their dog’s body language. Lip-licking, stiffness and even yawning at other dogs can be good an indication of uncomfortability in a dog, Kim noted that “It’s just this energy releasing that dogs are really good at reading but we as humans are not so good unless we learn those things. So if we see any of the more obvious signs of stiffness then we’re just gonna say ope that the dog might need a little bit of space we’re gonna step off to the side here maybe we’ll do some tricks while they pass by and do something fun that keeps our dog entertained”.

TacoMo Dog Training also offers an open workshop to help promote training without the 6-week commitment. These sessions are only for dogs with controlled dog-to-dog social skills.
