MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – As spring continues to bring in warm weather, fishermen are starting to head out onto Lake Superior. This morning, thanks to Hooked Up Charters,TV19 was given the chance to get on the water and try our luck at catching some fish.

Captain Tom Tarkleson has been behind the wheel for hooked up charters in Marquette since last season, but he’s been fishing on lake superior for over 15 years. when you take a charter with Captain Tarkleson no prior experience is necessary

“I do all the work for you pretty much, I’ll send the lines out and give you a quick tutorial of how to get the fish in and coach you along the way,” remarked Tarkleson.

Charters for the most part start early, the boat heads out of the dock at either 4 a.m. or 6 a.m. but itineraries can be customized.

“If there’s kids on the boat or someone who doesn’t want the big waves we can stay closer to the harbor where it’s calmer,” said Tarkleson.

On our charter catching fish didn’t take long. After just 10 minutes of having rods in the water we had our first bite. Then the fish just kept biting. In a little over 2 hours of fishing we had caught 5 Coho Salmon. According to Captain Tarkleson it was a slow day. Even after getting back to the dock the trip wasn’t over.

“I’ll filet them up and make sure you got some meat to bring home,” added Tarkleson.

In a little less than 4 hours Hooked Up Charters was able to not only teach us how to Salmon fish but provided us with a few dinners as well.

Charters can be booked through hookedupfishcharters.com or by calling (906)-458-0783.
