WAKEFIELD, Mich. (WZMQ) – A boil water notice is in effect for the City of Wakefield. City officials say E. coli was detected in the water system using a fecal indicator.
The well samples collected on April 24 tested positive for E. coli. The city is now conducting additional sampling to determine the extent of the issue.
City officials warn residents to boil water for one minute before drinking it. They recommend using bottled water if possible for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes, or preparing food.
The boil water notice applies to customers of the Gogebic Range Water Authority, which includes Bessemer Township, Ironwood Township, and Wakefield Township. It will remain in effect until results verify the water is safe to consume.
