UP Voice Champion releases music videos

MUNISING, Mich. (WZMQ) – The UP-Voice Contest returned to the Venue in Munising last year, bringing dozens of talented performers to the stage competing for the title.

The second annual UP Voice contest was held in Munising last December and out of all the contestants, Heather Leigh soared above the rest taking home the trophy.

Before the contest, Leigh found her love for music at such an early age, giving her over 30 years of experience. Remembering when she first was bit by the music bug, she told us, “I was probably six or seven when I really started enjoying singing. My mother bought me a karaoke machine when I was younger.”

Entering her first contest at the age of 13, Leigh had no idea what her pipes were capable of until she first held the microphone to her lips.

Although a seasoned performer, with less than 24 hours to take the stage, life threw Leigh quite the curveball. She explained, “My main guitarist, um, canceled on me the night before of the concert, heard the contest.”

Stressed without her seasoned guitarist, Leigh wondered if she would have to cancel. Truly destined to be on that stage, Leigh found one to accompany her vocals. She told us, “So, he never even heard the song, never even played the song. He came over and we had it down in 2 hours, and I had to get ready real quick and run down to the gallery.”

Completely thrown off and stressed without the guitarist she was familiar with; Leigh took the stage. Reliving that moment, she shared, “While I was singing, um, I had, he missed the cord. I missed the note. And I thought that we totally ruined the entire performance. I freeze. I froze. I froze.

And she went on to win out of dozens of contestants anyway. In addition to winning the title, Leigh just finished recording two professionally recorded music videos that were released today.
