MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – The Northern Michigan University College of Business awarded over $100,000 in scholarships this morning. The College of Business’ award breakfast is a forty-seven year-old tradition at The University.
Over 128 students and faculty were there to recognize academic excellence within the college and award over 30 different scholarships. Carol Johnson is The Dean of NMU’s College of Business, she says the relationships between The University, the students, and local business’ is what makes the event so special.
“For some students it makes the difference between having to take out a loan.” Johnson says, “It allows them to continue their education without the worry of how their going to pay for it, so, it’s really a great thing and we couldn’t be more happier.”
Students in the college of business are recognized for their class work and extracurriculars. They say it’s nice to have an event where they can see all their peers in one room and be acknowledged for their hard work. Kayla Koski is a Financial Management Major and Junior at NMU, she said the event is a great break from her upcoming finals.
“It’s inspiring.” Koski says, “It makes you wanna work harder as well as just seeing all the hard work that you’ve put in as well as other people, your peers, seeing what they’ve got out of this school year and the awards they’ve received”
