Iron Mountain, Mich. (WZMQ) – Residents of Dickinson County can rejoice as an international discount supermarket chain, Aldi’s, has confirmed plans to open a new store in the city of Iron Mountain. City Manager Jordan Stanchina confirmed that discussions to bring Aldi’s to the area had been underway for some time.
“There’s been some discussions with Aldi’s about coming into the City, and they were looking at a lot that is east of the existing Culver’s restaurant. That property did close, and the anticipation is that there’ll be construction this year,” Stanchina remarked.
The location of the new store will be off of U.S. Highway 2, making it easily accessible for residents who live or shop near Iron Mountain. While a timeline for the construction and grand opening has not been confirmed, the addition of the new supermarket chain will provide new opportunities for those seeking employment.
According to the Aldi’s website, the new store will be an award-winning workplace with a strong focus on environmental sustainability. The chain has been voted ‘Best Place to Work for New Graduates’ for several years running in Forbes Magazine, and is recognized by the Environmental Protection Agency’s Green Power Partner’s program.
As the construction begins, residents and visitors alike can look forward to more grocery shopping options in the area.
