MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – The annual Marquette Winter Roots Festival returns this weekend. The Winter Roots Festival is an annual celebration of folk music and dances put on by the NMU Beaumier U.P. Heritage Center, Hiawatha Music Co-op, and Peter White Public Library.
“The opportunity to see the human craft, human artistry, hear the music happen and it’s coming from these people right in front of my eyes there’s just nothing like it,” continued Bocklund.
This year’s festival is going to be featuring two days of performances, workshops, and even Irish dance lessons.
“Everybody’s kind of starting to think about the next one coming up and they’re jonesing for some festival fun,” said Executive Dir. of Hiawatha Music Co-op Terri Bocklund.
The festival kicks off Friday from 6:00 PM-7:00 PM with Irish dance lessons and a contemporary Irish Folk Music Tallymoore.
