ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – A new business has opened in Escanaba, bringing nearly 100 jobs to Delta County.

L&M Fleet Supply opened its doors on March 6, as part of the company’s expansion into the Upper Peninsula and Northern Wisconsin.

The new store is located at the former Shopko site, breathing life into the large building for the first time in years.

“We like our location,” said store manager Jackson Schauer. “This is a very wonderful, big building for us. We are appreciative that we could take it over. Being in the center of town makes us a good hub for everybody to come in and shop.”

Schauer says with its broad selection of products, L&M has something for everyone–especially in a place like Escanaba.

“Anything from the typical homeowner to the contractor, to the outdoorsman or outdoorswoman, the pet owner, the home improvement specialist, somebody just coming in to shop for fun,” said Schauer. “We hit a wide variety of clientele.”

So far, L&M has brought approximately 90 new jobs to the area. A handful of jobs are still available.

“We’re looking for a few different positions around the store, so we’ll probably have close to 100 by the time we’re all said and done,” said Schauer.

L&M is a member of the Delta County Chamber of Commerce. Chamber communications officer Vicki LaFave said, “It’s great to see the former Shopko site come back to life with L&M Fleet Supply. We think the store will be an exciting addition to the retail offerings in Delta County.”

L&M will host a grand opening event in July, featuring vendors and giveaways. Until then, Schauer hopes to continue building connections with the community.

“We try to say hi to everybody that comes into the store,” he said. “We like to walk the customer to the product vs. pointing to the product. We’ve had a lot of great feedback so far, and we have a very wonderful customer base.”
