MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – The North of the 45th: 16th Annual Upper Midwest Exhibition is still accepting submissions until March 22nd.
This exhibition represents artists from the Upper Midwest region, open to Michigan, Minnesota, and Wisconsin residents who are 18+ and live north of the 45th parallel. “I always see exhibitions as you know really what we do as artists, in order to get our work out there and to talk about the ideas that are important to culture right now,” said Exibit Director Emily Lanctot.
Every year the North of the 45th brings in a new juror. This year’s juror is Michael Andrews, an artist who worked in college-level art schools, artist residencies, nonprofits, small business incubators and design-focused retail.
Andrews will decide the exibition winners, gifting the Jurors’ Choice award along with a $500 prize. Other prizes include the Audience Choice award, and a Permanent Collection Acquisition Award. “How people show what they’re interested in whether it is the preservation of that beauty or just reflecting on that beauty and allowing someone else to appreciate it so there’s a range,” continued Lanctot.
The exhibition is open to up to five entrees from each artist and all forms of media. The winners pieces will be displayed starting on June 23-28th.
Work in all styles created in the last three years that hasn’t previously been exhibited at the museum is welcome. Pieces are to be submitted via devos.slideroom.com and paying a $20 fee.
