DELTA COUNTY, Mich. (WZMQ) – A Gladstone man drowned after breaking through the ice on the Little Bay de Noc on Saturday.
The Delta County Sheriff’s Office responded around 7:10 a.m. to a report of an enclosed side-by-side falling through the ice near the mouth of the Escanaba River.
One person was pulled from the machine and another was still inside.
Delta County Dive Rescue recovered the body of 65-year-old Joseph Demeuse, who drowned in the incident.
Assisting on scene were John Breitzman, Delta County Search and Rescue, Delta County Dive Rescue, Delta County Victim Services, Escanaba Public Safety, Michigan State Police, DNR, Dickinson County Dive Team, Ensign Fire/Ice Rescue, Masonville Fire/Ice Rescue, Gladstone Fire/Ice Rescue, Rampart EMS and Pro Towing.
