NEGAUNEE, Mich (WZMQ) – The city of Negaunee recently developed a Forestry Management Plan for some city-owned parcels. The management plan comes from a city ordinance that was adopted by the city back in 2019. The plan covers a 10-year period and details the status of forest on each parcel and identifies which may be ready to harvest or other possible public uses.
Nate Heffron, “So if there are areas we can do selective cutting, or thinning forest, or replanting forest where that might make sense, then we certainly want to do that. At this time, we have not found anything, but in the near future we could be doing some harvesting on some of these tracks of land.”
The Forestry Management Plan was put together by Green Timber Forestry Consulting Inc. From Pelkie.
Not being trained foresters, Heffron said, “Not provide a thorough assessment, would be a disservice to the community.”
