KEWEENAW, Mich. (WZMQ) – The Keweenaw Development Awards Program are part of an annual grant cycle that open up funding opportunities for local goverments and nonprofits to recieve support. The applications for the awards are due March 3rd.
The annual grant cycle, awards up to $20,000 to nonprofits and local goverments in Houghton and Keweenaw County. The grants purpose is to help benefit the visitor economy and the community, and these funds help to keep the dollars in the community and enrich’s the experience.
“Those clubs just desparately need that funding so that’s a lot of these nonprofits up here struggle to get funding as much as they would like so this is really just a great opportunity for us to reach out, see how we can help eachother and make this place a better place to market as a destination”, says Jesse Wiederhold, Public Relations Coordinator with Visit Keweenaw.
In 2022, for example, $2,300 was awarded to the Calumet Groomers Club for Fat-Tire Grooming Equipment, and most recently, $10,000 towards the Snowmobile Groomer Barn Construction.
