HANCOCK, Mich. (WZMQ) – In Michigan’s Copper Country, the community support for nonprofits hit record levels in this year’s Giving Tuesday. Checks were handed out in early January to the 26 nonprofit partners with an overall donation of $859,136. Portage Health Foundation officials said that coming from the pandemic, they were in disbelief around the number of contributions flowing in, even before “Giving Tuesday.
“The number of contributions that were coming in we quickly realized this is gonna be some kind of a year”, said Portage Health Foundation Executive Director Kevin Store.
Through the six years of the P.H.F.’s #GivingTuesay program, they have raised $2,773,903.51 for nonprofits from Baraga, Houghton, Keweenaw, and Ontonagon counties. “Certainly equal last year, but to be able to see a 48 48.7 almost a 49% increase in donations was just amazing” continued Store.
