MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – The Marquette Regional History Center is seeking nominees for the 2022 Helen Longyear Paul Award and the Peter White Award. The History Center awards program began in 1984.
The Helen Longyear Paul Award recognizes individuals while the Peter White Award honors foundations, companies, organizations and institutions. Both recognize exceptional effort in the enhancement, restoration, conservation or interpretations of the Marquette area history according to the MRHC.
“Hearing the stories of the award winners is my favorite part and really recognizing their work in the community,” Betsy Rutz, museum educator at the MRHC, said. “It can be really quiet behind the scenes recognition of history or a blockbuster movie or film that was produced. It is a big variety.”
Nominations should be a page long and delivered by mail or in person to the MRHC or by email at mrhc@marquettehistory.org. Each letter should include the award category, how the nominee has shown dedication and commitment to local history and the projects that they have worked on.
The deadline for nominations are Feb. 1.
The awards will be then presented on Feb. 22 at the MRHC during their annual meting. For more information, visit the MRHC website or call them at 906-226-3571.
