MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – With the new year finally here, home services like Swick Home Services advise homeowners to go through their yearly home checklist to make any changes and upgrades to their appliances.
“Number one thing is the [furnace] filter as a homeowner. Other thing that we come across a lot is something as simple as your batteries and your thermostat,” Jon Kataja, service manager at Swick Home Services, said. “There are a lot of thermostats that require batteries and it’s something as simple as that that could make you lose heat in the winter.”
Kataja said that clearing exhaust and intake pipes from blowing snow is another good thing to do as the winter season continues in the area to prevent further damage to your home.
For first time homeowners, Kataja said that having a professional come in and take a look at equipment.
“It’s a great time to ask a service professional great questions about anything you may have regarding your home,” Kataja said. “They would be a great resource to answer those questions and inform you on anything that’s new to you as a homeowner.
