The general election is less than a week away here in Michigan. With November 8th coming around the corner quickly, we are bringing you more information on exactly who will be on your ballot next week.
Here in the up the 109th district covers much of Marquette, Alger, and Dickinson counties. With the districts house seat open this year, a new democratic candidate is in the race, as well as a familiar face on the republican side. Melody Wagner is running as the republican candidate here in the 109.
I want folks to know how much I care. I’ve been involved in running my campaigns now for 5 years. and I’ve worked hard to win this seat. folks know that I work hard to represent them. I work hard in my own community to get things done.
Melody Wagner – Republican Candidate
Jenn Hill, current Marquette City Commissioner, is running on the democratic side of the race.
People asked me to run, both for city and for this race and thinking that I was a practical, good problem solver, someone that could work with lot of different people, and someone who understood.
Jenn Hill – Democratic Candidate
Hill says she is hoping to build on our public transportation, and create more supports for young adults in community college.
Prescription drug prices, and making sure we get a cap on prescription drug prices. making sure we repeal that pension tax, no one is left behind in the up. women’s rights are on the ballot, voting rights are on the ballot, financial disclosure. those are things I’m all in favor of, more transparency, the dignity of a hard day’s work and that each of us is treated with respect.
Jenn Hill
Wagner says she wants to focus on building our trade system, and call attention to what she says is a broken legislation
It’s a dysfunctional legislation, and accountability, ethics and transparency, I want to focus on those to make us function so it works for the people. and the second part of my platform is our mental health crisis. I’d like to see our different organizations work together that are involved with that. work builds self worth. and integrity, and people have to feel that.
Melody Wagner
With less than a week both candidates are focused on going door to door and checking in with locals before the big day
I’m pro law enforcement, I’m pro second amendment, and I’m pro life. and I want fold to know that I’m gonna go down there in Lansing and stand up for them and bring back the things that we need in the up.
Melody Wagner
I’m listening to the voters, and I’m not coming in with any particular agenda, most of my work as an advocate has been to say the up pats to much for its utility bills, and it’s energy bills, electricity in particular, and so what can we do to change that long term. not just a short term fix but an actual long term change.
Jenn Hill
Hill also recommended vote411.org as a resource for votes to learn more about what’s on their ballot next Tuesday.
We will keep you up to date on what on your ballot, and don’t forget to tune in on election night for your live race results.
