We’re just a week away from this years general election. If you’re voting absentee, it’s time to get your ballots in, and if you haven’t voted yet, it’s time to decide how you’ll be casting your vote. There are four house seats here in The UP, The 108th district runs from Menominee, all the way over to Chippewa.
This year The Michigan House of Representatives seat is open this year for the district, and a candidate on both sides has stepped up to run for the opening.
David Prestin of Cedar River is the republican candidate.
after selling Cedar River Plaza I went back to school and became a paramedic, at bay college over here, at the same time I was a county commissioner in Menominee county, so I’ve seen the effects of the pandemic, it really gave me a desire and a duty I felt to throw my hat in the ring and the race.
Dave Prestin – 108th Republican Candidate
Chris Lopez is the democratic candidate from Escanaba
I’ve actually been interested in running since I returned home from Iraq in 2007. it just wasn’t the right time at that moment with having very young kids and I was focused on my intelligence career. it’s the right time for me to start serving my community again, I’m excited for it
Chris Lopez – 108th Democratic Candidate
Lopez is a military veteran, he says he saw flaws in our current system over the COVID 19 pandemic and that he wanted to be a part of the solution.
One of my main focuses is being an energy producer, i want to make the up an energy producer, and i want to bring more opportunities for us. but one of my primary focuses is going to be on school safety.
Chris Lopez – 108th Democratic Candidate
David Prestin is a pro life republican, he is against proposal 2 and 3, but outside of moral issues, Prestin says he wants to bring solutions to The UP.
public safety, energy, regulatory reform, government overreach. are pretty much the main stays and the baseline principals of my platform.
Dave Prestin – 108th Republican Candidate
Prestin stresses the importance of understanding what your voting for, and making sure your voice is heard. Lopez asked voters to keep an open mind, to reach out and talk with the candidates and consider both sides.
if we don’t hold the line, if you don’t become part of the solution, you’re part of the problem if you don’t become part of the solution.

vote your heart and your conscience. look at me and my opponent and just vote for who you think is going to serve the community, who’s gonna serve your best interest.
