MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – A person is dead after a house fire in Marquette Friday evening.
Marquette City Fire Department said it happened at 511 W. Magnetic St around 5 p.m.
Crews were called to the home for a possible chimney fire. Upon arrival, flames were coming out of the first floor windows, and mutual aid was called for assistance.
The lone occupant was found on the first floor of the home.
The brunt of the fire was extinguished within 15 minutes. Crews searched the second floor and attic of the home to ensure there were no other occupants.
The name of the person who died is being withheld pending family notification.
Marquette City Fire was assisted by Marquette City Police Department, Marquette Township Fire, Chocolay Township Fire, UPHS Unit 141, Marquette City Public Works, Marquette Board of Light and Power, and Semco Gas.
