Marquette, Mich. (WZMQ)- The Native American Student Association (NASA) hosted indigenous peoples day on Northern Michigan Universities campus today. NMU students as well as community members came out to show support and learn about and celebrate Indigenous culture.
The celebrations included a variety of speakers from the Indigenous Community as well as Northern Community members, Including the Colleges interim President Dr. Kerri Schuiling.
Dr.Schuiling was grateful to have the opportunity to speak at the event and talked about the importance of hosting events like this that educate the public on Indigenous culture and history in the area.
Sophia Panek, the President of NASA, said “It helps to have a lot of support from the community and other places so that we are able to have some allies come in and get this thing going.”
