Veterans are such an important factor in our U.S. history, making these stories heard really matters. On October 5th, Marquette County’s History Center worked with Senator Gary Peter’s office to coordinate the Veterans History Project.
An endeavor aimed at collecting interviews from our nation’s heroes, the VHP recorded from 2 pm-7 pm. A Veteran and Educator at Northern Michigan University, Micheal Rutledge says “there’s always conflicts or controversies in war but that was a true case where if you have a sledgehammer, you use it and that was something to see… but I think my cold war experience…that was the highlight of my entire career, that’s what I wanted to talk about”.
After these interviews are recorded, they’re sent to the Library of Congress, secured in a national archive. Being able to share their stories, gives these Veterans a chance to write their own history and have it remembered forever. For more information and links to these interviews, click here.
