The Peter White Public Library is hosting Banned Books week.
This annual event has been going on nationally for 40 years in an effort to stop censorship.
Books that have been challenged or banned are placed on a list and provided to each library.
Libraries are then able to choose which books they’d like to feature.
Most targeted books to make the list were by or about Black or LGBTQ people.
Andrea Ingmire, Library Director Peter White Public Library, “Intellectual freedom is really important and we take it very seriously and other people should too.”
The number of challenged or banned books from 2022 has already exceeded the record number from last year.
You can stop by the Peter White Public Library’s circulation desk to pick up a “banned books bingo” card to submit back to the library for a chance to win a gift card to Snowbound Books.
Banned Books week ends on the 24th.
