This year was the 19th annual swim for diabetes at Teal Lake in Negaunee. The swim started back in 2004, Bell Hosptial, the Upper Peninsula Diabetes Outreach Network (UPDON), and Dr. Michael Grossman partnered in planning a 2.25-mile swim across Negaunee’s Teal Lake. See https://swimteallake.org/ for more info.
These races have raised over $190,000 and the funds are used for diabetic care by UPDON (www.diabetesinmichigan.org). There have been so many people competing in this swim over the years and Julie Innerebner, a competitor in the Teal Lake Swim, she’s already planned and prepared for next year’s competition.
“Last year I outran somebody to the finish line. I’ll be in a new age group next year so my goal is to win that and to raise more money.”
