ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – Downtown Escanaba will transform into an extended pop-up art gallery for the second annual ArtWalk.
From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., area artists will display their work inside select businesses. Artists will be on site to meet guests and discuss their creative process.
Some pairings, like business Nyman Jewelers and artist Ted Brainard, share a special connection.
“He does woodworking,” Nyman Jewelers owner Sue Parker said. “If you have ever noticed our front windows, the stands we have were made by him several years ago. They’re great pieces.”
ArtWalk is sponsored by the Escanaba DDA and the Bonifas Arts Center. The goal is to highlight the integral role that artists play in creating a welcoming downtown for both locals and visitors.
“Look at the murals we have on our buildings,” said Parker, who also serves as DDA Chair. “Look at the businesses like East Ludington Gallery, which is strictly all handmade art by local artists. It’s a way to bring them out to light, to give them the opportunity to show what they can do.”
While checking out the art, patrons are encouraged to browse the shops and stop at nearby restaurants for lunch.
