MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – Marquette’s Third Street will be home to the area’s next marijuana dispensary.
A three-story building layout at 420 North Third Street was presented to the city’s Planning and Zoning Commission on Tuesday by a downstate retailer. The idea was initially brought up in 2023, but at the time did not meet proper zoning requirements. Those adjustments have now been met, aside from a few requested fixes.
“This plan has to meet our staff and commission comments,” said Commission Chair, Kevin Clegg. “So there are a few things they need to work out before it’s on the ground, but it met our standards of site planning and special planning review this time.”
The plan also includes three separate apartment units above the dispensary, something the commission agrees is valuable to the downtown district.
“It meets our Community Master Plan, which is something the city is looking to accomplish, so it was a big reason for that approval,” said Clegg.
The Planning and Zoning Commission voted 7-0 to approve the project. An exact timeline is currently unknown.
