Nine goals and three assists in seven games
MARQUETTE, Mich. — The United Soccer Coaches announced its national players of the month, and Northern Michigan’s own, Luca Rosen, was honored as NCAA Division II Forward of the Month.
Rosen had a dazzling September; in seven games he scored nine goals and three assists for 21 points.
Highlighting the month of September was his record-breaking game against Jamestown, where he scored four goals to become NMU’s all-time leader in career goals and became the first Wildcat to score four goals in a game. Rosen then had his sights set on the all-time points record, which he was just one point away from matching. Rosen tied the mark the following game before smashing the program record shortly thereafter, firing home three straight games to end the month.
“It seems like another week, another award for Luca,” added head coach Alex Fatovic, who adds another first to the Wildcat record book, as Rosen now becomes the first Wildcat to receive a United Soccer Coaches Player of the Month honor. “He’s certainly a player worthy of this national award, and his September was one for the record books here at NMU. However, Luca is such a tough competitor and desires much more than personal accolades, but team success in October. You see it in his efforts and leadership, and we expect even bigger things down the stretch. Well done, Luca!”
At the time of writing, Rosen’s 12 goals on the season are just two off the national lead, his 28 points are third nationally, his 60 shot attempts are second nationally by only one, and his 33 shots on goal are tied for first.
The Wildcats will close out the GLIAC regular season with four straight home matches, starting with St. Cloud State on Friday, October 16, at 3 p.m. ET.
