Wildcats hit a post and a crossbar
MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Northern Michigan (NMU) women’s soccer team (6-3-3, 3-3-2 GLIAC) battled to a scoreless draw against the Lions of Purdue Northwest (4-5-3, 2-4-2 GLIAC) on Friday.
Both teams would earn their fair share of chances throughout the match, with the Wildcats having arguably the two closest opportunities to breaking the stalemate in the second half in the form of a header by Madison Bilbia that just bounced off the crossbar and a breakaway by Addison Frantti that was only stopped by Purdue Northwest goaltender Meta Fischer racing out of her box to challenge the play, just getting a toe on the ball to send it safely out of bounds.
NMU outshot the Lions 16-13, including an 8-4 edge in shots on target, but both Fischer and Wildcat goaltender Carly Sides stopped everything that came their way. The Wildcats also held an advantage in corner kick opportunities by a 3-1 margin.
