MANISTIQUE, Mich. (WZMQ) – A Manistique business is using its upcoming Halloween festivities to support a local family in their time of need.
On October 23, New House Junction will host a Wild West Spooktacular. The event will feature food trucks, a makers’ market, raffles, outdoor movies, crafts, oversized bowling, and other family-friendly activities. Additionally, the New House Junction lot will be transformed into a Wild West town. Local businesses and organizations will sponsor scenes within the town for photo opportunities.
The event will be a benefit for the family of Brad Benard, a former Inwood Township Volunteer Fire Department chief the community lost to suicide in September. Participating vendors have agreed to donate a percentage of their proceeds from the evening to the Benards.
“Brad was a hardworking husband with a beautiful family, beautiful kids,” said New House Junction and New House Baking Co. owner Carly Steffen. “He really enjoyed giving back to his community, so we want to take care of somebody who took really good care of us. We do have the health department coming out with suicide awareness literature. We’re going to have a couple therapy dogs here for any of us that just need a little bit of extra love to help us get through. We also will be selling Light the Night bracelets, and those will light up. Those will be $5 apiece, and all proceeds will go to [the family].”
