NORWAY, Mich. (WZMQ) – An international corporation is expanding outdoor recreation opportunities in the Upper Peninsula while supporting responsible access to the area’s natural resources.
Billerud has partnered with the Dickinson Trail Network (DTN) to provide access to several hundred acres of company-owned forestland near the Quinnesec Mill, allowing for the construction of a new 2.5-mile cross-country trail loop branching off Norway’s Ez Eh Trail. The addition expands the area’s growing network of non-motorized trails, offering outdoor enthusiasts another way to experience Dickinson County’s forests and scenic landscapes.
The new trail, named Paper Jam, complements DTN’s existing hand-built trail system with gentle grades and a relaxed, flowing design that appeals to a wide variety of users, including mountain bikers, hikers, trail runners, cross-country skiers, and snowshoers. Visitors can enjoy several standout features, including a newly constructed boardwalk, abundant blueberry patches, and expansive views across a sustainably managed forest overlooking the Menominee River.
According to Billerud, the project aligns with the company’s commitment to sustainability and responsible forestry while creating value in the communities where employees live and work.
“We believe responsibly managed working forests and community recreation can work hand in hand,” said Brad Nurmela, Operations Vice President at the Quinnesec Mill. “We’re proud to provide access to Billerud-owned land and work with local partners to create opportunities that benefit residents and visitors alike.”
The project also reflects the strength of community partnerships. As a volunteer-led nonprofit, DTN works to build, maintain, and promote a network of more than 40 miles of non-motorized trails throughout Dickinson County.
